Well, to be honest...phone interview!!!!
Sorry, LJ Friends -- I expect there'll be a lot of job hunt minutiae in my journal for the next several weeks (months???).
This is the first time in years that I've submitted a resume directly to a company, and they've responded (my jobs for the last 5 years have come through temp agencies or friends).
It gives me a big shot of confidence -- means that my resume is in pretty decent shape.
This isn't the bookstore job -- I'll probably apply for that one next week. This company is "a world leader in multilingual web development and multicultural online marketing", according to its website. I'd sent my resume and cover letter, by email, last Saturday. Yesterday, I received a reply from their HR manager. He said that he needed more information "in order to move forward". Their staff consisted of a large number of people who were non-native speakers of English. What was my experience in working with people "with diverse language and cultural backgrounds". In my reply, I mentioned that I had traveled alone in more than 25 countries in Central and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia (blah, blah), that I had tutored immigrants in ESL, and that my parents were non-native speakers of English (all true, of course). I sent it off, and held my breath.
Well, knock me over with a feather. Hey Mikey, he liked it. I have a phone interview tomorrow.
I have to remind myself that I am not desperate. I still have my part-time warehouse job, which I enjoy -- and they want to hold on to me as long as possible. Between those earnings, and my savings, I can live until next summer without taking another job. I must remind myself that I need to interview them while they are interviewing me -- that I want a place that will treat me well and where I'll feel comfortable and valued.
Still -- an interview!!! YAY!!!
