“I hope you feel better Kyuhyun! Maybe you can hang out with us next time!”
“Yeah. See you later.”
He closed his door without waiting for a reply. Kyuhyun let out a soft sigh. Friends were so bothersome sometimes; why couldn’t they understand the wonders of StarCraft or WoW?
It was the summer holidays and his first year at the University of Seoul. Really it was his time from nagging parents and boring lectures. Although he felt slightly guilty at lying to one of the few people who bothered to invite him out, he had more important things to do, like kill the zerglings.
Cho Kyuhyun was a simple man. Anti-social but an average person none-the-less. He had few friends and most of the people at his university had realised by the end of freshers week that he was a loner. Heck even his parents had stopped trying to get him to phone them after the hundredth missed call and Kyuhyun liked it like that. Call him simple but his boring life was nice. Go to his maths lectures than come back to his dorm room to play games. Occasionally he’d bother attending social events but as the year went on he made excuses until people stopped inviting.
He let out a satisfying sigh as the familiar login screen of StarCraft appeared. It would’ve seemed lonely to most people but he was used to hanging out by himself since primary school. Plus he had his online friends to keep him company.
Hours ticked by as Kyuhyun stared at his computer screen. It wasn’t until his tummy started rumbling that he decided he needed some substance before continuing. A quick glance at the clock had him frowning.
11.07pm
The only store near his apartment that would still be open was ‘Mr Kim’s’, an old store run by an equally old man of the same name. It was so old that Kyuhyun sometimes wondered how the structure held. ‘Mr Kim’s’ was cheap though and still open so he really shouldn’t complain.
As he walked he couldn’t shake the feeling that someone was following him. Then again maybe it was just the feeling of the cold wind. He tugged his jacket closer and set off at a faster pace.
Kyuhyun let out a small sigh of relief as he entered the brightly lit store. As he pushed the door open the bell tinkled. He blinked his eyes to adjust to the sudden glare of light.
“Ah! Kyuhyun, good to see you boy.”
Mr Kim smiled at him, the old man’s face tired but cheerful. “You too, Mr Kim.” Kyuhyun murmured as he moved to peruse the instant noodle aisle. The tinkling of the shop bell signalled another customer. He swept his gaze along the shelves. Beef flavour or kimichi? Then again the spicy seafood one looked good too but he only had enough for one.
Maybe Mr Kim would let him pay for the other one next time? Kyuhyun nodded to himself, picking up the spicy seafood and chicken flavoured ones his gaze reading the tasty descriptions on each. He walked back to the counter.
“Hey I was wondering if it would be…”
His words trailed off at the sight that greeted him. Mr Kim let out a strangled sound as tears streaked down his face. A masked man was holding a gun to Mr Kim’s head although he was now staring at Kyuhyun intently.
“P-please, did you want my money?” Kyuhyun was frozen as Mr Kim continued to babble nervous pleas. He couldn’t seem to tear his gaze away from the robber. The man was taller and obviously muscular; his outfit was at odds with the mask and gun. A clean crisp suit that only served to emphasise the physically stronger man. Kyuhyun swallowed down the bile that threatened to come up, there was no way he could win.
He was going to die today.
There was white noise in his head as the man seemed to come to a decision as he shot Mr Kim before turning to him. His body seemed frozen in fear.
“…”
He couldn’t even scream. How pathetic. His first year at university and he hadn’t even made a real friend yet. No romantic flings or drunken stories. All those lost chances. The man kept coming closer and closer even as Kyuhyun carried on stepping backwards. He stumbled slightly when his back hit an aisle. The man was standing far too close. Kyuhyun glanced to the blood splattered wall where Mr Kim had stood.
He was going to die. He scrunched up his eyes. Damn it, why hadn’t he just agreed to go out tonight?
He could feel a hand graze his cheek almost tenderly before he lost consciousness.

I hope you liked it! Thank you for reading ^^
Next Chapter:
Eunhyuk seemed wary of him as he entered the small room. Nothing like the cheerful mirth earlier. The purple bruise on the other’s face added to the sick feeling that was building inside Kyuhyun. That couldn’t have been because of him. Eunhyuk was one of them. They wouldn’t have hurt him because of his attempt to run would they?
“Please don’t try to escape again.”
