I don't think that's the right word, nor is it even the right word for a play on words with the weather. There's reference in the article to horses, or even Traveler. Of all the possible homonyms, the writer picked the only one that couldn't work.
Earlier today, I was given lesson plans which required that I "assist the student's" as needed. Fun times.
