guys guys guys
Yesterday was a major day in my own personal journey of becoming more assertive.
On my lunch break I went up to read on the western prom. Some shirtless dude sauntered up to me and said "hey." I glanced up, said hey, looked back down at my book. "How you doin?" he asked. Barely looking up, trying to broadcast don't-bother-me signals, i replied "fine, how are you." Dude was not getting it. "Good. ...What are you reading?"
I looked straight up at him and said, in my bitchiest voice, "A book. Do you need something?"
He said no, and sauntered off.
It might sound silly to be proud of being rude. But if you've known me for a long time, you'll know that I have always been polite and sweet and friendly all the damn time. This gets me quite far in life, but is not quite enough. I can remember soooo many conversations I've had with random dudes in public spaces that I have not really wanted to have, but at the time, did not have it in me to be assertive enough to get out of them.
