CANON POINT: Season 2 right after Max leaves her at the cafe. HISTORY: Canon History: While working as a waitress at her parents' restaurant, the Crashdown Cafe, Liz Parker witnesses an argument between two customers and is accidentally shot. Max, a boy that she goes to high school with, rushes to her side. He quickly heals the wound simply by placing his hand over it, bringing her back to life. To cover it up, Max breaks a bottle of ketchup on her and begs her to tell no one what happened. A little later, Liz discovers a silver handprint on her stomach. If she wasn't suspicious before, she definitely was now. So, during a biology class experiment, Liz sneaks a sample of Max's saliva and examines it under a microscope. Shockingly, she discovers that Max's cells look nothing like human cells. So of course, she confronts Max, who reluctantly admits that he, his sister Isabel, and their friend Michael are aliens whose spaceship crashed at Roswell in 1947. They stayed in incubation pods aboard the ship until 1989, and they were “born” as human six year olds. The remained in Max divulges that he saved her life because he has strong feelings for Liz. And so, their romance begins.
Liz was initially sworn to secrecy, but of course when she starts to act weird (like she’s hiding something), her best friends Maria and Alex start to notice. So soon she had to tell Maria and later Alex the truth. And so, the group of six reluctantly become friends, bonding as they struggle to protect the three aliens from being discovered.
I am going to have this Liz be from at the end of the first season. At this point a fourth alien, Tess comes around, she has knowledge of their past lives and what their “destiny” is. It is learned that Max, Isabel, Michael and Tess are clones of the royal family of their home planet and that Max is the king, Isabel his sister, Michael his second in command and Tess is Max's wife. So this leaves Liz with a dilemma, stay with Max and have him deny his destiny? Or let him go. Liz chooses the latter, an begins to distance herself from Max, so she doesn't get in the way of that destiny. Season 2 is heavily about the aliens and you don't get to see alot of Liz at first. But eventually Liz and Max get back together, tentatively.
But then another girl, Tess comes along. Max is immediately attracted to her. And they even share a kiss. Eventually it comes out that Tess was Max's mate in a past life on their planet. (God how soap opera is this show?) Needless to say, Tess is all over Max but tries to act like she's not, discretely trying to steal Max away from Liz.
Things become very strained between the two of them but they get even worse when a future version of Max comes back to tell Liz that if things between Max and Liz progress, things in the future will be horrible, including an alien invasion of earth and the deaths of millions. So 'Future Max' convinces Liz, after a lot of arguing, that something must be done, drastically, to make Max fall out of love with Liz.
At this point of canon they are both still virgins, so after a lot of complications, Liz makes Max believe she slept with another guy, her ex Kyle. It breaks Max's heart, of course, and things between them are ruined. But Liz is still very much in love with Max.
Because of this, Max goes to Tess to comfort. And the two become close and Max starts to remember things about his past life. But soon, Liz and Max learn to be a least cordial and they even go to prom together. Max still has hopes that maybe they can be together but during prom Liz squashes those hopes, still believing it's for the best. And Liz is frankly tired of their making each other miserable. So this drives Max to Tess even more. They kiss during prom, Liz sees. And it's not good. And then the worst happens. The night after prom, Alex, Liz's best friend, dies in a 'car accident' which looks more and more like it was because of an alien. But Max and Liz disagree on this point, Max begins to believe that Alex committed suicide but Liz cannot accept this. So this drives a HUGE rift between them. Max says they can no longer be friends if she continues to blame Alex's death on the aliens. And Liz sadly agrees. Eventually, after a lot of things happen, Max finds a way home because he has to, because Tess is pregnant. And the baby is dying because of being on Earth.
He tells Liz and while she's upset she still loves him. And he loves her.
PERSONALITY:Liz Parker is your typical girl next door, or at least from the outside. She is beautiful though she doesn't really realize it. She is smart and very direct about her opinions. Not to mention, she’s sensible, confident and levelheaded. Liz is a complex character; very sweet and kind overall, But also driven to control every aspect of her existence. Everyone loves her. Before Max saved her life, Liz believed nothing exciting would ever happen to her. She grew up in small town Roswell, in a very sheltered environment. In school, she is incredibly successful. A straight A student, she excels in all her classes but especially science. She can multitask well, most of the time, as exemplified by her honor roll status and the way she balances school, work, and her friendships. She throws herself into everything she does. Which sometimes can be a bad thing, her focus becoming border-lining obsession. But despite that, she’s good kid, she had never been in real trouble until Max saved her life.
Control is something very important for her: with it, she can get facts and answers and this makes her feel more safe about herself, life and everyone she loves. However, her real nature isn't really so controlled. When Max saves her life and she falls in love with him, she quickly discovers that Max is the living proof that people cannot control everything and even science doesn't have all the answers. This rocks her world. And yet she's attracted to it, like a moth to a flame. When she quickly begins to understand this, she realizes that she should just follow her heart and live for the moment. Because no matter how people try, they can't control everything and they can't choose whom they fall in love with.
Liz proves herself as the "brain" among the group. She's the one who constantly gets the very core point of their problems and finds a solution most of the time - especially if the problem can be fixed with science. However, her determination and selflessness mixed with her sometimes controlling nature can also be a character flaw when it leads her into making decisions where she takes too much of the responsibility. The weight of the world is constantly on her shoulders. But she rarely crumbles, taking everything that happens to her in stride. She figures out a way to make the situation her own and controllable.
