hiroshima ; or he row she ma or he rowsh emma - People here say it both ways.
After an enjoyable training session with the salarymen (and women) friday night, we went in to hiroshima saturday to do some sight seeing.
I went to the atomic bomb dome and hiroshima castle. I will have pictures up soon. Also went to a foreign food store here.. all I have to say is DR. Pepper. For some reason the japanese think it is disgusting, I savored it.
At hiroshima castle there was a festival going on. An autumn festival to the please the kami for good harvest and good times. This was done at the shinto shrine in front of hiroshima castle in the form of kagura.
It was interesting to watch and with my limited vocabulary I was still able to piece together what exactly was going on. It is kind of a mix of Noh and Kabuki.
Hiroshima castle is kind of disappointing, bear in mind it was leveled when we sent them up the bomb, so it is a replica. The only thing that is left that is original is the castle walls and foundations from the buildings. It is still cool to think about 800 years of samurai and emporers who walked the grounds as you stroll through drinking starbucks.
I was able to get l2 to go to aikido, which was nice. I went twice this week. I would have gone more but the first time I went we did three hours of suwari waza (techniques where you are on your knees.) I will say this, whoever says tatami is software and more giving then mat is wrong. It is harder and rough. My knees were bleeding by the time we were done, angry white pajama style. As a senior I have to make and example and not complain. My knees are still tender and the blisters are oozing a bit, I was later told they sell pads basically that everyone wears, wimps.. as I said, pictures will come soon ;)
