I know all of my readers are painfully familiar with the "dumbing down of America" as the guitar ensemble director here referred to it. I just wanted to give you one more little marker of how far and how fast we're falling.
How about this? Universities BRIBING students to study. I'm not making this up - in the dorm where I live, if an RA 'catches' you studying, you get "Study Bucks" which you can redeem for prizes. Yes, it now takes material incentive for students whose parents are paying for their education to even hit the books.
We're in a lot of trouble.
Finished Benedict XVI's Introduction to Christianity finally - at the end were more of the Catholic doctrines with which I as a Protestant was a little less comfortable. Nonetheless, the book was excellent and I feel like I took a lot from it. Now that I've finished that 'central' reading project I'm trying to figure out what to focus on next. I need to be reading more music history independently of class. By the way, I started my Tchaikovsky paper for the end of the semester which is coming up fast now that I look at it.
