I need a bumper sticker that says "Imperial County Public Works Pwned My Ass." I had a horribly unproductive day at the County. The mobilehome dealership I work for is trying to convert some property into a temporary storage area. Not a big deal, no building, minimal landscaping additions, basically we just wanted to make sure they weren't going to fine us for parking some homes on our own property. Last week it looked like the Powers That Be were going to be cool and just make us plant some trees and we'd be good to go in about a week. But the Public Works Department decided to be bitches and make us get a "drainage plan" to make sure that when it rains, as it does about once a year, it doesn't flood the street by our property. Since it hasn't done that before, and since we're not changing anything, I fail to see why we need this. But anyway, that proccess takes at least a month and costs upwards of $2500. THEN they're making us build a driveway that extends 100 feet into the property, and 100 feet on each side of the entrance. However, our property is only 150 x 120, so our supposed driveway would go onto other peoples' property as well as the major highway that is our cross street. Somehow I don't think CalTrans will appreciate that. And we have to apply for a permit to build the seemingly impossible driveway, which will take at least a week and cost another $400. Not to mention the cost of the driveway itself, once we actually get the permit to build the thing they themselves are requiring us to build. Only in California would a person have to go through all that crap to park something on their private property. I don't think we're going to end up having a storage yard.
The Good News: At least while I was in town on my "County business," I got to go to Walmart and buy fabric. Project Runway has addled my brain to the point where I'm thinking I can sew things. I even braved the spiders in the garage to dig out my sewing machine.
