Montreal subway

I forgot to mention the craziness of the Montreal subway system. I may have almost died on it, but probably not. I don't really know. I was getting on one of the trains, and it was incredibly crowded. I was being sort of pushed into the car by this wave of people behind me, when all of a sudden people started screaming and scrambling back out onto the station. It was a wave of people again, only in reverse. I couldn't tell why people were leaving, but the mob was so thick that I was basically pushed out of the train before I could ask any questions. People stopped freaking out once they were on the platform and away from the train, so I figured I was relatively safe at that point, but I didn't bother sticking around trying to figure out how endangered I was where and when. Instead I didn't take the subway after all. I still don't know why people were panicking, but my best guess is that someone on the train pulled a gun on someone, or something similar. Freaky.

Also, I didn't have to pay to get on the subway for some reason. There were no ticket vending machines in the station, oddly enough, so the only way to buy tickets was from a live person at a ticket booth. However, no one was in the booth, so everyone was just walking through the gates (which you didn't need a ticket to go through). Yay, at least I didn't have to pay to have my life endangered.

But still, weird. Every transit system I've been on has been pretty anal about tickets.
