The ermine rat designs workshop:
More buckles are going into the hopper, and more wooden stuff as well. I'll get some done before I start bragging about them. Scrollwork will be the top priority for the next week or two.
I have some old projects I need to polish off, yeah, it's an old song, but it needs to be done.
The latest Zachary story and parenting fu:
Zachary is developing an interest in Hockey, and I wonder if he's going to take more of an interest in that temporary skating rink in Walnut Creek this winter.
I think we're going to be spending some time on table manners this year.
Zachary is getting really interested in Ice Hockey, so I guess the next thing he needs to learn is how to skate on ice. Aside from the seasonal rink down in Walnut Creek, I don't think there is a rink any closer than Oakland.
The house projects:
Raking... everything is about raking these days. I know that if I stop, it will start raining.
I suspect that the dog is a revenge pooper. Vigilance is the watchword. If you leave the house, she will poop in the special place between my bedroom and our son's. If you don't let her sleep in your bed, more poop appears in the same place. I don't think this is what I wanted from a dog.
Music heard and movies seen, books read:
Devil Makes Three has a new album out... but here I am on a Saturday listening to ELO and CCR.
I've been spending more time with my Appalachian dulcimers this year. A friend gave me a hammer dulcimer recently, and I want to get it all tuned up and maybe play it at 12th night. I think I have a teacher in mind, and I'd like to get back to playing more regularly. Let me know if you want to join in.

Stacey and I wanted to pick up another TV series that we could watch together (it seems to be a small thing, but it is something we can share). It is an effort because we have to watch it without the commentary of our son. Stacey picked "Sons of Anarchy", and we watched a few episodes. It has things that I don't care for, and some of the plot works really well. I'm still not sure if I like it overall. We noticed last night that we are halfway through the second season. I guess that means we're fans now.
It's nice that we can Netflix our way into a series that we didn't have time for when it first came out. We can also choose to get involved in a series that we know survived many seasons, and gives me some confidence to invest the time in learning the whole world and plotline and characters. Too many series' just whet my interest, only to be chopped before the premiere season finishes. Now I'm willing to stay off the bleeding edge of network trust to see a bit of a track record before I go on that first date.
Walking:
Lots of walks on Lime Ridge, but 2-3 miles a day (with lots of hills) doesn't really amount to much weight loss for me. I'm lucky I can do this with a friend. I just need to keep from getting too much chilly air on my lungs, and sometimes that can be hard on me in the mellow California winter.
I'm glad to live in a generally pretty state.
Driving around:
Showing off places in Carmel, Santa Cruz and places along the coast for my friends who are still learning about California. Some of it has been comforting visiting some fun memories, and some sadness when I find a place that has been erased. I don't really get mad about things that haven't survived. Those things weren't meant to last forever, and I don't think there is an Order of Monks running around preserving things that I touched and saw in my youth. Sharing bits of this with friends can be fun though.
I should drag myself down to ride my bike out on the pedestrian bridge of the new Oakland span.
The SCA:
Busier this winter, and it's nice to be doing court service things again. Now I just have to get back into the habit of going to courts again.
I have been thinking about taking on an apprentice recently. You only find the right fit once in a while, but I'm willing to wait for the right person.
Getting my calligraphy tuned up for a few projects and some longstanding projects I want to complete. I wish my critical eye would go easy on me today. My skills haven't deteriorated too badly, but I really like to do my best when I lay down a scroll. I must force myself to march ahead even when I don't feel up to it (feeling out of my groove) but if you let that feeling stop you, you'll never pick up a nib again. I have six scrolls to do today... wish me luck.
