12th Night is done! Back to my more usual workload.
I was asked to play the part of the Krampus (see pre-christian alpine folklore) at 12th Night, handing out golden switches (to ensure a faithful spouse, and obedient children), and to distribute coal to the wicked. I could have included more things but this worked out pretty well. Women really went for the switches, and they even emptied my quiver in the royal ready room in their eagerness to deal out obedience.
I liked handing out the coal. Some people thought I was handing out chunks of black foam, or charcoal briquettes, but being a resourceful traditionalist, I had a friend ship a big box of coal for my use.
My son protested the costume he was wearing. The tights and Mary-Jane shoes might have gone over better if they didn’t come from the Tutu store. The shoes even had hearts on the soles. But when our household’s kids were all wearing them in a pack, it seemed to be okay. After coronation, they were all bundled off to grandma’s house for video games and pizza… keeping all of them at 12th Night would have been pressing our luck. I hope someone got a picture of them together, we put a lot of time into those outfits.
I was offered a Laurel around dinner time, and I accepted. It will be done at March Crown. Details will be forthcoming. I’ll probably be talking about this more in later posts.
After 12th Night there was a birthday party at the temporary skating rink in Walnut Creek for two of the household boys. Zachary hasn’t done this before, and was desperately trying to figure it out in the two hours of ice time he had. For a while he would put his right foot down and push himself along with one foot, like you would propel a skateboard. He took off his hat during a break because he was hot, then put it back on “because I fall on my head a lot”. By then end he was doing petty well, I might have to find a way to get him some more ice-time. I didn’t go onto the ice.
