There are at least two problems in the article: An acquaintance wanting professional services, and how to tell a someone the writing stinks. Both are difficult.

The professional services one is seen regularly from dentists being asked to look in the mouths of other dinner guests, to techies being asked to fix someone's computer. The second is more difficult.
