Summary: Scientists need work too.
She decided to browse the want ads on the forum. Looking for work as a scientist was an easy task, but finding interesting work as a scientist was a lot harder than it sounded. She didn't want to have to go through all the B.S. of filling out paperwork just to discover a bit more about Pokémon. Give her a subject and a dissecting table and she could work on it endlessly. Analyzing what gave Pokémon their powers was what interested her the most.
You would think that the Worldwide Pokémon Science Center's online website would have a much more interesting layout. Maybe it was because they were all scientists and didn't care about aesthetics. Whatever it was, the plain text of the forum made it hard for her to resist yawning as she looked through the topics. Trying to find some kind of help wanted ad that wasn't so "for the betterment of Pokémon and humankind" or technologically based was difficult enough as is. Technology wasn't her strong point in the advanced world, and finding ways to improve a Pokéball to foster friendship or capture quick targets sounded more like busywork than something that really called for a scientific mind. Finally, she reached an ad that was even plainer than the others. The author -anonymous- wrote something so short that her interest was actually intrigued.
HELP WANTED
5 fellow lovers of science.
Help me to discover the secrets of all the Pokémon in the world.
Please meet me in the live chat that will be held on Friday at link. I will be in the chat room all day.
No limits on what you will study.
Together, we can reach the end.
A couple of posts were made, asking anonymous to explain a bit more about what he was looking for. There were no replies made by the author. The post was made on Saturday night. She sighed and stretched. What day was it again? The lady looked at a corner of her computer screen. Today was Friday.
"Shit." She really wanted a job, and wondered if there really were no limits. Quickly she clicked the link, and found herself in a mostly empty chat room. To the side she saw her username and Anonymous. He must really like that name, she thought, irritated. That was stupid, to keep calling himself Anonymous.
I heard you were looking for help? she typed in.
Yes. Do you have any questions? popped up almost instantly.
What are the limits? I highly doubt that you won't limit us on our studying.
What are you interested in studying? The question seemed to be glaring at her, daring her to tell the truth. In the past she got reprimanded for her lack of concern for the health of her subjects. She felt suspicious that the wrong answer could get her banned from the organization and her title denounced.
Something interesting.
What's interesting to you?
This guy was really getting irritating to her. Whatever, it's not like they could find her anyways. She registered a false name to this account in the event that her ideas of scientific interest were too appalling for the general populace.
Her fingers gave back a noisy reply. What gives Pokémon their powers? Where in their DNA determines type, match up, bred abilities, the whole nine yards. She felt herself grin as her click-clacking increased in rate. Typos were made, but she hastily corrected them, eager to let out all her fantasies. With the right equipment and grant, I could discover a way to affect a Pokemon's type when bred, or maybe even change it in the parent generation!
There was a few minutes before she got a reply that made her grin grow even wider.
I think that can be arranged.
