Profound brain things

I have been neglecting my journal. I therefore will try and come up with something perhaps useless, but appropriately fannish.

...

I've been having this weird phase where I'm all about the alter egos. I mean, I love super powered hijinks as much as the next comics reader, but I have become obsessed with certain characters in some kind of AU where they don't have super powers.

(I recently watched Iron Man (AWESOME, btw) which might have triggered the phase but I don't think has much to do with the specifics.)

It is probably mostly from Lois and Clark and Wonder Woman. Due to the cost and limited feasibility of 'superpower' effects on said shows, the writers tend to spend much more time making the person behind the suit interesting than is perhaps considered necessary when one can have big shiny splash panels displaying epic conflict. In fact, in these shows when the costumed heroes come out it often seems entirely gratuitous; I can't count how many times I have shouted at the tv for Diana Prince to stop it! Enough with the Wondy nonsense, just rein in your strength and tell bystanders you took the bad guys out with karate!

I really want people to write those stories. The ones where Clark  has enhanced senses and strength, because he's an alien from a heavy world, but none of the comic-book physics-defying stuff, and he does try to lay low because he doesn't want to get 'dissected like a frog' but it isn't as urgent as if he can move mountains.  Or Diana is pretty much immortal, but is only the upper end of human abilities. Things like that. I would love to read those stories.

...please, someone else write it. Lest I have to. >.
