Head injuries bleed A LOT.
Colin was climbing around like a crazed monkey with a flaming tail and fell off the beanbag. I was in the other room blending oils to soothe our colds. There was a thump immediately followed by panicked screaming from BOTH boys. Sticking up between the beanbag and the fireplace were 4 madly flailing legs. I pulled Zachary out and set him upright. Initial inspection didn't show anything obvious on him. UNDER him, though was a puddle of blood--not Zachary's. Colin was covered in blood, freaked out and screaming. Blood was all over the back of his head, down his shirt, and on the hearth. He had slammed the back of his head on the metal edge of the fireplace insert. I scoop him up and take him into the bathroom to clean him off, expecting there to be a chunk of his scalp missing or hanging off. Nope. The cut was only about an inch long and maybe a quarter inch deep, but the swelling from the bump kept the edges of the cut open even after rinsing in cold water and two applications of ice packs to reduce the swelling. So, off to urgent care we went. He got three staples in his scalp. I got pictures. I also get to watch him fairly closely for the next three days for signs of a concussion besides infection in the scalp laceration. AND he needs a tetanus shot in the next 72 hours.
Mom's Rx: sushi and ice cream for lunch.
Somebody else can worry about dinner. I've got to be at a meeting for Colin's preschool tonight, anyway.
Enough day already.
