*sigh*. So much has happened, and of course I wait until late at night, just before we leave for the East coast and a mini-tour to type here.

So.... rapidly..

1) My sister now has her own blog and she's far more diligent about updating (so far) than I am here. Plus it has cute pictures of my adorable nephew Oscar too ( Read more... )

Woo, you live!

Sorry to hear about the car accident -- that sucks! Glad you both are ok though!

For New York, I was there for the first time in September and I had a great time. I liked the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space museum, the empire state building (I got breakfast of coffee and a bagel with lox and cream cheese and took it up to the top and ate it while I watched the whole city, very cool). Times Square is definitely something to see and Central Park is really cool to wander through. Wall Street and the former site of the World Trade Center are interesting and I think my favorite thing that I did was a dinner cruise around the bottom of Manhattan and by the Statue of Liberty. I dunno how much those cost though -- it was a part of the conference I was attending. The regular ferry to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty is neat. If you want to go inside the Statue (which is only in the base) you have to have a reservation in advance or something -- I'm sure the Park Service has a web page about it. Roosevelt Island is interesting to walk around on, plus there's a cool cable car you can take to get there using a regular subway pass. It's all 1950s buildings that look the same and have the same font signs and stuff. Very interesting. Plus there's a former asylum that partly burned down and then the firefighters used it for burning building training after that on the south end. Also Grand Central Station is cool and walking up 5th Avenue is interesting -- while doing that I realized just how much of Manhattan I had seen in movies without understanding how it all fit together.

(wow, that's a lot of stuff -- and I was only there three days! no wonder I was tired when I left...)
