*sneaks back in*
I've spent the past hour cleaning up the apartment and setting up the aquarium. I had budgeted (drastically) for a new laptop when my power cable starting fritzing out after it fell off the coffee table, and had planned to go and buy a new laptop this morning after no matter of messing with the cord would result in a happy CHARGING symbol. Two hours on the phone with Toshiba tech support essentially boiled down to, "Pay to send it to us, pay us to fix it, pay us for the parts... but no guarantees. It might be the motherboard." After a bit of crying, I sat down on the mostly defunct ghetto rig to price out laptops. It wasn't so bad, really- I'd be really, really broke for a little while, but I could manage it. Noting a sale at Best Buy, I stared at my beloved laptop. Its Kuromi sticker stared back at me.
Well, fuck it. I might as well take it apart and see if its something I can fix. It's not like it has a warranty I need to worry about voiding. So I grabbed the tool box and sat down to dismantle it.
It has the same power outlet as ghettorig. Huh... Ghetto rig's works... most of the time. An hour later, I'd fixed it. Myself. With just some cussing and a screw driver. SO SCORE. Amount saved? $700*. Time spent: 1.5 hours. It wasn't a PERFECT fix- figured out a little late that I didn't plug the touch-sensitive controls at the top back in, which makes cleaning the damn thing a lot easier- and I also accidentally misaligned the keyboard. Whoops. Fixed that easily enough. The amount of pride I'm taking in something that only took me an evening (well, a 11-12ning) is amazing. I'm so proud of myself for fixing it myself. GO ME.
So today I bought an aquarium with $50 of that saved $700. And a new winter coat for Bella, because IT SNOWED YESTERDAY, IN TEXAS, WHAT THE HELL, and the coats were down to $3. It's pink. She loves it. I got Booger a toss and play treat ball, too. He adores it. Bella LOVED Petsmart. So much. She kept going up to the clerks expecting biscuits, and she charmed the trainer so much he ran her through her paces and okay-ed her for the advanced class. Fuck yeah. I figure I'll sign her up for the summer classes, because the current advanced class that's about to start is on Tuesdays/Thursdays, and I have ASL then. Dammit.
She also fell in love with a great dane, who seemed utterly disinterested in her. But that's okay, because she came home and went and played with Kingston, her boyfriend, in the dog park. Kingston is a Schnauzer who lives in building 5. He has a Coach leash and matching collar, no joke. He and his owner are super cute, though, and he and Bella adore one another. It's so cute to see them light up at the sight of each other. I keep meaning to bring my camera.
WALL OF TEXT IS WALL OF TEXTY. Long story short, I have a very tired, very happy dog, a decently happy bunny, and an aquarium that's settling. I bought some plants, but I'll wait a couple of days to add fish. And then I'll let Bella pick a bunch out, because she was deeply entranced by the tanks at Petsmart.
