Ok. First of all, 90% of this album was released about 20 years too late. The popular track "Le Disko" is sorely misleading. I was expecting a beautiful if somewhat nostalgic album full of dark electro-clash goodness. This album is anything but. It's like...New Order meets Depeche Mode meets emo. Yes. Happy 80's pop depression and angst all rolled into one mediocre CD. If I hear "my tears" or a lyric about crying one more time I think I might scream...but not in that whiny Screamo way. The most amusing part of the album: I think they stole the theme from Never Ending Story and used it on track 12. This is followed by a Devo-esque remix of Puttin' on the Ritz. Then by a happy hardcore track that Anabolic Frolic would be proud of.
Now, that's not to say I'll throw it away. I don't hate this CD, I was just disappointed as I had high expectations. Plus it's hard to trash a moderately good-quality pirated CD. The only good 80's pop I have in my car is strewn about random mixed CDs with names like "June 2006" or "New" so We Are Pilots can be my backup when the need for cheesy synths hits on the highway. Most likely though "Le Disko" will end up on a mixed CD, perhaps called "Winter of a Thousand Storms" or maybe just "Newest" and that will be the end of it.
On another note my fucking espresso machine exploded this morning. Had I not been across the kitchen getting a glass of water I'd be in the hospital with glass shrapnel in my face and chest...scared the shit out of me. Not to mention the damn mess it made, coffee grounds and glass everywhere. I think the damn pre-packaged espresso pod (that my parents gave us for xmas) spontaneously exploded causing the heavy metal filter thingy to smash downward into the glass pot set below to catch the espresso. These pod things are made by Starbucks. I thought about taking a bunch of pictures and trying to sue them, but it was just too much effort on top of cleaning up the glass and coffee grounds all over the kitchen ;p Dan's theory is that I didn't screw the filter on tight enough...whatever. Either way, no more glass near the espresso machine.
