Found this entry on someone's site and just had to agree. Their icon is totally awesome too.

Being part of a vidding community that is getting more and more obsessed with "clip theft" I am on my last nerve and am tired of biting my tongue so as not to offend any on my online friends. I actually have a really good friend who runs a protection site to stop "clip theft". I think it is admirable to say that people shouldn't copy other's work. I think if you take someone's video, post it on your site, and claim it as your own work, or just don't credit the original vidder- that is wrong. Same goes for artwork in my book. As for pictures of your fav celebs and such- fuzzy little line. I don't really feel you need to credit each site for every image you use from them. If its a great resource for you, put it in your Resources section and brag about them. But, I don't think people should feel obligated to request permission or to have a listing somewhere of where they got every image that is saved on their computer. Did those people actually photograph those celebs? Where they on the set of Roswell that day taking pictures of the cast? No. Then those pictures don't belong to them -period-
And as for "clip theft"- did you shoot the show? Are you affiliated with the WB or UPN? No? Then you don't have any right to use the clips you use in your videos. Thats right, I am saying that even I have no right to use the clips I use in my vids. I know this, I understand this, I ignore this ^_^ But that is why I find it so hard to try to keep clips to myself
-First of all, I used everyone elses clips from their vids when I started out because that was the only way I knew how to get clips
-Secondly, there just aren't enough Roswell vidders out there and I figure 'the more the merrier' I WANT people to take my clips and make an amazing vid
-Lastly, this whole 'honor amongst thieves' seems like a load of crap. How can you claim rights to something that isn't even yours. I can understand being upset when you spent all week ripping clips off your DVD collection to make a video and then someone uses one of those clips. Yeah, that sucks that you put in hours of work and it only takes a quick download for them. But, think of it like your are contributing clips to the greater good. Learn to share people.
Ok, off my soapbox now.
And heading on vacation. See you all when I get back from the island!
