Caribbean Yule - A Ficlet in Three Parts

May I present for your reading pleasure a little gift, written especially for my faithful and intensely talented crew of The_Black_Pearl_Sails, with love at Christmas. Thank you for making the group such a splendid place to be. I am proud to sail with you all. :-)

I do love this little series.

Others have commented on the differences. I was struck with the similarities. Each of these men in the starlight finding himself pensive and thoughtful. Each of them looking wistfully for something permanent in the mutable world they live in. Each of them drawn back into the joy of fellowship-the ephemeral human celebration, the joyous music, the brave small lights, all under the illimitable sky. Your painting with light is exquisite in these pieces-each lantern and candle picks out a little scene in the darkness.

Such a beautiful image.

And of course, Jack, who has a limited amount of patience for introspection and melancholy, leaping about like a flea and stirring up his crew to party is side-splitting. Life on the Black Pearl must be quite invigorating. You never know what the captain will do next.

Jack Sparrow stood with one fist gripping the shrouds and the other a mug of grog.

"Now this," he said with a golden grin, "is a merry Christmas."

Even though Christmas has come and gone, this is a wonderful festive picture. I still have my live tree up anyway! Merry Christmas even though it’s late, and thanks for the wonderful gift.

LOL, and I love that you're seeing even more in it than I consciously knew I wrote! I am pleased at what you said about light playing a part, since that was not really done deliberately. What I actually do is *visualise* scenes, as if I stood behind an imaginary camera, and then I record what I see. So I'm *seeing* the stars and candles and lantern light ... but I'm not really aware of what role they play in the story. LOL, I'm just happy it worked, and you saw what I saw! *G*

I'm veeeerrrrry sloooowwllly catching up on all the Christmas reviewing I missed. Everyone else was so prolific while I was too busy to do more than finish up a couple of almost complete chapters.

I always like reviews that point out things in my stories that I didn't even notice, so I'm glad I've been able to do that for you. I know what you mean about writing what you see in your head. When you write what is right (yay a pun!), the meaning sneaks in behind.
