I don't have any exciting news, so some random tidbits:
I had a very fun Saturday with the Wonginator and crew driving around to a bunch of little Niagara wineries. The best part is that the trip seems to have converted dustinw into a wine appreciator and he's been showing off his pairing skills (the other night he paired my curried chicken penne with Flat Rock's Rusty Barn Chardonnay. I got excited by the 2 gravity wineries and the organic winery we visited - can't wait to break open a bottle of my Frogpond organic wine - maybe tonight!
The aforementioned Wonginator has convinced us to take yoga with him by twisting our arms around until we turned into pretzels and desperately needed a way to come undone. We're going to Queen Street Yoga with Meaghan Johnson. I like it so far - the yoga is very easy, but she does a great job of explaining exactly how to do the poses from scratch, so I'm correcting some things that I was cheating on before.
I purchased an oboe at the wicked Long & McQuade used instrument sale. It was massively discounted. I'm excited because I always wanted to be an oboe player (at least, I wanted to be one once I learned that everybody and their dog plays the flute and therefore flute players are almost never necessary). I've been bad and haven't practised for the last few days - must do so tonight. It's crazy how much lung capacity the thing requires, but I'm happy with my progress thus far. I managed to get kabuki_mask started on my flute and bugsybrown is working on trumpet so soon we'll have a very poor concert band where we can all make squawking noises together! My little brother is going to start on trumpet as well and dustinw will hopefully get going on the tenor sax unless he defects in favour of a trombone.
I have discovered a new love affair with David Gray - bought his album white ladder after finally figuring out that the song I keep hearing and not knowing what it is is actually "This Year's Love". I'm working on it on the piano now. I've met my first goal of preparing songs for Battle of the Bards, but have totally chickened out in terms of performing them. On the bright side, my simultaneous singing and keyboard hacking skills are improving dramatically!
I get my comprehensive exam question on March 30. In the meantime, I finished my reading list today (formatting 14 pages of references = not fun). Now I have to start drafting answers to what I think the questions might be and see how many holes are in my head.
Okay, that should be enough to bore everyone I know!!!
