Honestly I didn't really read books when I was a child. I was far too busy building shit out of lego to match the tv program I was watching at the time or kicking a ball around the garden. I didn't really get into reading until my teens on the influence of my big sister who shoved her Dragonlance books at me when I showed a bit of interest.

Well thank the gods for that eh?

To be honest I doubt whether it would have made a whole lot of difference either way. I'd probably still like the things I like in much the same way as I like them now and I'd probably still do the same things I do. I just started with Dragonlance instead of Star Trek if you see what I mean.

What it does mean is that my fond rose coloured glasses aren't of LotR as is the case for so many. I can freely say I found *all* of the Frodo parts of the book to be insanely boring filler between all the great Aragorn parts. Whihc is probably why it took me nine months to read the damn book when it only took me two weeks to read the similarly lengthy Cryptonomicon.

Yes. Eowyn is easily the best female character in the books, though I have to say Cate Blanchett as Galadriel was right up my street. Damn but pointy ears look good on that woman...

Arwyn who?

ehhem, arwEn was...well. i have ALWAYS been a sucker for black hair and pale skin *eyes jaime murray, mhmm* you can probably blame lucy lawless for that. so i was rather happy to see liv tyler on screen. also, how fucking PERFECT was that casting?
but oh yes! cate blanchett as galadriel, FUCK YES!(you should check the lotr section on my site, i have at least 3 galadriel walls) but eowyn...ah, my eowyn. she was always so perfectly me when i read the books. and then i heard the movies being made and i just could not WAIT to see my eowyn come to life. and she did! and man, it was worth waiting 3 years to see that one scene in the last movie, "i am no man." i nearly leapt out of my seat!
you know...i cried when the fellowship of the ring started for the first time on the big screen. that was...a religious experience for me. i saw it 12 times in the theatre.

yes yes, my mistake =P I have a friend whose nickname is Arwyn so I was confuzzled for a moment there.

Ahhh Éowyn... 'slender but as a steel-blade, fair yet terrible.' I wish they could have come up with a better line than "I am no man." Of course that could just be my maleness talking. I'm not a big fan of Sam Carter's "just because my reproductive organs are on the inside..." line either. It doesn't flow well.

I still regularly rewatch the extended editions back-to-back. Nothing quite like 11+ hours worth of high fantasy on my tv.

You really should watch Legend of the Seeker. At least the second season. Cara and Kahlan are totally gay for each other by the end. I'm not kidding.

Back me up here fitful_fire!

i wish it could have been something more...poetic, but her line fit with the scene.
and i always loved sam's line. was one of my favorites of the whole series.

yes I know, I've heard you extoll it previously. =] I fully agree with the sentiment. I just wonder if there wasn't a better combination of words to express it. *sighs* as you said... something more poetic.

Ohmygods, yes! SO GAY for each other.

Especially that whole 'the only way to heal the wound is with the Agiel thing". Right. Sure. Like you couldn't have just made a fire and seared it shut that way...pft. pur-leeze.

I mean really, queer as a three-dollar bill and a thousand times hotter. Tabrett Bethell is just...well, she's Tab. And Bridget Regan is...smokin', to say the least.

I mean really, the sheer volume of fightsex toward the end of season two...jehosephat. Don't even bother with season one. just watch season two so you can climb aboard the glorious Cara/Kahlan 'ship.

DO IT NAO!!!

Disregarding for the moment how Kahlan of all people suddenly turned as gullible as Richard for an episode, 02x17 'Vengeance' has one of the best fights in the season, and it is so very Cara/Kahlan shippy fight!sex all the way. Here's some gifs from aww_frak_it's picspam of the episode.

The Like A Fever video was sooooo good... but that person deleted their account, so no more goodness but in our heads and in other videos...-cries-

As for the awesomeness of Cara...well, she speaks for herself--> http://ivanolix.livejournal.com/179922.html#cutid1

I think I need to watch the last episode again, as I might be letting fanfic go to my head, because I clearly picture Cara surviving Kahlan's Con Dar. If you know what I mean then you know what I mean.
