Yesterday, I had a massive rush of sewing-mood, so I ran with it. I also was powering through S1/S2 of Strange New Worlds and never got to a stopping point enough to focus on the question. I was straight up selfish yesterday and y'all can just deal with it :D
Is there anyone online (Youtuber/Instagrammer/TikTok-Person?) that has inspired or influenced you by
inabsentialuci Shockingly, for my lack of online "participation", I actually have a few specific people to list! (and a lot of folks who are going to get Mary Ann'd, but I know what they mean to me and shoving that into a single sentence just wouldn't be justice)
YouTube - I have four that I can think of, off the top of my head.
+ Jayda inStitches and Mikey from The Crochet Crowd are my two main YTers. Both taught me how to crochet and, while I don't get to watch most of their videos as often as I used to, I'm forever grateful for their time and energy in helping teach others how to craft. There are about dozen quilters & crocheters who I also follow on YT, and they have helped me try new quilt patterns or tricks for how to put a project together, and I'm always thankful for them.
+ Erik Voss, from New Rockstars. He (and everyone at the channel) have helped put 95% of my non-MCU Marvel knowledge (non to mention non-Marvel properties) into my head and I love learning all these little nitpicky nerd-details from them.
+ Alan & Jonathan at Cinema Therapy - I happened across one of their videos, by chance, and just watching them break movies down into basic therapy-type topics has been fascinating. they cry, I cry.. they're hilarious. And they're from Utah, which is always a win for me
Instagram - I don't use this enough/like that
Tumblr - I don't use this enough/like that
TikTok - Never used it. Not interested.
Twitch - Felicia Day was my introduction to Twitch, and through that I have found some great people and have also made some of the best friends in niche corners. It may sound a little ridiculous/cliche/whatever.. but Twitch saved me during the lockdown. Thanks to a random suggestion, I ended up watching a gal in Canada make a quilt, one day, and three years later, I'm picking her up at the airport for WDW marathons and helping her teach classes at a sewing convention. Quiltoni is the one who gave me the push to try and make a quilt and, while it did not go at all well, I've made some of the best friends in her community. There are a few other Twitch channels that I schedule time for, but I don't know that any of them are really influential, but I guess they are inspiring in their own ways.
Facebook - Technically, these two can fit in a few groups, but I have to add Wil Wheaton and Kim Rhodes into this list because those two have been the best Internet mom & dad. Between TableTop, Ready Room & his posts with Wil; and Supernatural, Wayward Podcast & her posts with Kim.. they are the two people who (I think) I would burst into tears in the presence of. It's never even really been anything deep that either of them say.. but I feel like when they are talking about whatever.. they ~get~ me. And that's a good feeling.
And a special MVP goes out to Ben Brainard, who is EVERYWHERE, and isn't so much 'inspiring or influential'.. but he is damn hysterical and I am thankful for him, every day (Even if he did jump ship and move to Cali. But whatever..); and to Mystery Science Theater 3000, which I also semi-discovered during the lockdown -- I had seen a few episodes over the years, but aside from S11 on Netflix, I had really never seen the majority of the show. Thanks to Twitch, I have since seen almost every episode and have made some great friends in the chat.
And, through that, I have to also give a shoutout to Discord, because it turns out that site/program/service/whatever it is has been one of the best things I have ever participated in. Yes, there have been some trolls and some drama, but for the most part, it's just been a bunch of little corners where I can be be with other folks being them.. It reminds me a lot of what LJ used to be... but with less userpics. ♥
Pretty sure I missed an obvious service; or forgot a very important person... but it's early and I haven't had any caffeine yet. But I know have to get started on TODAY'S post.. because it's gonna be a doozy! %D
