This is the first Cameron Crowe movie I've seen since "Say Anything..." My roomies' friend came over with the movie and they were watching it downstairs, so I decided to watch it with them. I heard it was a road trip movie and also had a really good soundtrack. This is the first time I can understand the attraction to Orlando Bloom. He looked good in this movie. I usually think he looks rather girly. It's probably hard for him because he has such a pretty face. lol. Anyway, I feel conflicted about the movie. It had some great parts. And yet, it felt like two separate movies almost. There's the conflict of Drew coming to terms with his dad's family and Drew's incredible connection made with Claire in one late night phone call. Then there's the second part: the road trip. Yes, they do connect, but it just doesn't flow nicely. Then there's the music. The music was pretty good, but there were times I felt like he focused on using the music to convey the scene a little tooooo much. The scene would start with the music softly playing in the background for the audience and the slowly build in volume where all you can hear is the music. I don't mind that, per se, just not when that device is used over and over again. On a positive note, I REALLY liked Claire's roadtrip book! It was so neat! It looked like this crazy scrapbook filled with maps (with directions), cds, pictures, brochures, everything! When I saw it, all I could think of was "OH. My. God. That must've took a LONG time to make!" (Because my mom makes scrapbooks, so I know the effort/time that goes into it.) I couldn't help but wonder how she was able to time the music and everything so perfectly though. It was eerie.
