mmmmm

They paved over the giant pink fish on the sidewalk.  Sad!  Fortunately, though, someone has painted "Je t'aime" in giant white letters on the slate wall right next to the fish.  And since I know, after watching the construction of another section, EXACTLY how long it takes to construct new slate wall, I am suspecting that it will be there for a while.

Really, even though I can understand how some people would object, sometimes I like the idea of graffiti.  When controlled and made by artists with practice or people with a message, it can brighten up a street.  Like the mysterious painter in NYC who will show up and paint beautiful pieces on walls, who has a definite style although no one knows who he is.  Every once in a while he holds spontaneous art auctions who are attended by the in-people in the art world, and are over so quickly no one who opposes his work can show up and figure him out.  (Not making this up.)  Or some of the controlled graffiti Michelle and I saw in Barcelona, like this very cool lady.

On a walk I had a few weeks ago, I ran across a park where a man was instructing three children to practice graffiti art on a giant wall set aside for it.  It was rather funny seeing those tiny boys with spray cans bigger than their heads, but it was also cool to think that they're being prepared to make things like this.

The point is, I know almost nothing, really, about art.  But I like this.

Also, I meant to write about dinner, which is why I titled this "mmmmmmm."  But I'm not in the mood to think of another.  So there you go.
