I feel your pain; I'm currently under doctors' orders to not have any caffeine. It is certainly difficult to be awake and productive sans coffee.

You also forgot to mention that in France a "cup" of espresso is the volume of a shot glass and makes your hands look like Andre the Giant's.

I once ordered a "cup of coffee" when I was in France. I am not a coffee drinker now, nor was I then, and I nearly spat out my first sip. Talk about bitter! I ate the little chocolate covered almond that came resting on my spoon and left the whole "cup" (i.e. doll tea cup) sitting on the saucer.

And yes, one must occasionally succumb to the comforts of home- not because it is any better, but only because it is familiar when so many other things are alien. I ate McDonalds on the Champs Elysee, because after 7 weeks in France, I needed it.

I feel you on your coffee thing.
You can get it here... but you have to drink it in a kafe, you can't take it out at all... So... yeah. :(
