A much better day today.  I am still shaky over the loss of my computer -- especially as it now appears that someone swept the car for everything electronic: the DVD player James's parents gave us for these long trips is missing too.  The car was sitting packed an open at the curb as we stood a few cars away bidding goodbye to Grandpa Michael.  The real kicker is that Nora was asleep in her carseat in the car too.  Mommy brain cannot cope with the horror of that.

So.  Moving on.  Good news is that our insurance -- which we have not used once in the 12 years of so we've carried it -- will cover all but $500 worth of replacing our computers with comparable computers:  that is, with middle-of-the-road Mac laptops.  I am getting  refurbished MacBook Air!  It is on its way here from the Apple Mothership in California as I type.

ALso, I had such a good writing day today, without a computer.  It made me think I should write my prose long hand more.  (I used to draft exclusively with a fountain pen, but in the last three years I've developed cramps in my hands when I write for more than an hour at a time.)
Or maybe the difference is that I put GILBERT aside for today (for a while?) and am working on an old abandoned novel, SORROW'S KNOT, for which I've had a terrific idea.

Survey for writers out there.  What's the difference between abandoning a work that you should be pushing forward on, and setting aside a stuck project in order to recharge another and let one's subconcious work on things for a while?
