Read the spoilers for the new issue of Buffy season 8 issue 11 and I gotta say it's about time.

Needless to say SPOILERS under the cut.

Spoilers written by Sosa Lola

"We know by this issues that Twilight is male and they tease us by him starting to take his mask off.

Twilight is really powerful and kicks both Buffy's and Satsu's butts. He also really puts a mind whammy on her making her question if all these newly called slayers are actually doing any good.

Twilight:One Slayer was all right. But all these girls....The world can't contain them, and they will suffer for that.I'll not kill you now.My first gift is my last.I know that you meant well but you have brought about a disaster. And it falls to me to advert it.

Buffy:Twilight,that's you.

Twilight:Have you made a difference?Have your slayers helped change anything in the world?Have they helped you?

Later

Twilight to his followers:You don't kill her,That's been done to little effect. The trick is to strip her of her greatest armor....her moral certainty. However hapless she may be about her personal life, this girl has always firmly believed she was on the side of right. And if there's one thing I've learned about the slayer(Twilight lifts up his mask and scratches neck).....Sorry itchy neck.Where was I?

Twilight reminds me a little of the Monitors in the current Countdown To Final Crisis weekly series and Arion in the recent Kurt Busiek Superman storyline,Camelot Falls.

I think he really is being setup as an interesting villain and someone we know from the series.

This issue also deals with Buffy confronting Satsu about her feelings for her(the lip gloss and the kiss).Buffy's flattered but as Satsu points, not gay. They get into talking and there is a reference to both Angel,Riley and Spike.

Buffy:The fact is knowing someone, you know that someone really cool feels that way about me,it makes me less....little bit less lonely.

Satsu:Then that's what's wrong with....

Buffy:It's fine for me.It's bad for you.People who love me tend to...oh die.Maybe go to a hell dimension(Angel) or burn up(Spike),or they start letting vamps suck on em and they leave(Riley). They all leave, even my friends.Sooner or later everybody realizes there's something wrong...something wrong with me,or around me or...WOW did not mean to end up there.

And that's when Buffy is attacked by Twilight.

Earlier in the issue Xander arranges a party for Dawn to make her feel better complete with booze. But she's of legal age to drink in Scottland and because she's a giant,it would take more beer they could afford to get her drunk in that state.

At the end of the issue Buffy reveals that she can't feel a connection and Xander theorizes that as the leader who brought all the slayers together, maybe that's the sacrifice she's had to make. "

So Buffy is FINALLY dealing with the fact that she could have screwed up. This has always been a sore point with me with all the Scoobies but mostly Buffy. I can not recall her ever fully owning up to something. There have been times when she's been close but usually it soon gets dismissed. To the best of my knowledge all the Scoobies save maybe Xander have done questionable things recently. They try to brush it off, which usually works but now is coming back to finally bite them in the ass. I'd love to see how they would face Angel and crew when they got on their high horse in ATS season 5.

Buffy ALWAYS thinks that she's doing the best thing even when that's not been 100% true. The question is if it's too late for her to learn this after 8 or 9 (maybe 10) years of slaying. In PG she thought her plan to kill the Master was sound resulting in her short first death. In Grad Day she went after Faith alone to save Angel and almost died herself. In the Gift she may of closed the portal but she never thought of what they were going to do with Ben/Glory. In season 7 she refused to even talk about anyone elses' ideas and wanted to stick to her feeling when she had no proof. Now she is robbing banks and ready to kill humans. Might be a little too little a little too late. We'll see I guess.

Maybe I wouldn't be as leery of this if she had figured this out sooner. I hold heroes on different standard having watched ATS. Wesley messed up and set about to make things better. Angel screwed up and even said he was sorry to his friends. They both made huge efforts. I haven't seen Buffy come close yet.

I thought the possible Satsu kiss was a fake out so seeing it confirmed is a little surprising. It also makes me think that she might be the one to betray Buffy. I remember them saying that she will be a character fans will remember. Also everyone is looking very closely at the Scoobies. Satsu still can become close friends with Buffy though. Why she would betray her I don't know.

BTW does it seem very Bad Beer-ish that Xander is giving Dawn, who is underage in America, beer after a bad time with a guy? Something about that rubs me the wrong way even though she can't get drunk.

soapbox, btvs, rant
