Happy Birthday, Beth!

Yesterday was an adventure! Annie, Jana, and I decided to head down to Harajuku to visit the Meji Shrine and to eat the Elephant Café, a delicious South East Asian restaurant. When we left Ami, the sun was shinning and by the time we arrived in Harajuku it looked like rain. We decided to forgo the shrine and just went to the restaurant where we spent the next three hours. Annie and Jana had never been there before and loved the food and the atmosphere.

After eating our fill we split up. Jana went off to her swing dancing class and Annie and I headed to the Hub to meet up with the other ALTs for Beth’s birthday. Annie and I arrived in Nippori only to find that the trains stopped because the wind gusts were so strong. We decided to head back to Shinjuku and check out the bookstore before seeing if the trains were running. After buying a couple of books we headed for the Shinjuku station and to our amazement the trains were still not running. We decided to eat. We went to the American Bar and Grill and ordered a pizza and a bottle of wine. The minute our food arrived we got an e-mail from Andrea saying the trains were running. We down the wine and pizza and got on the train for Kashiwa.

We arrived at the Hub two hours late (we were supposed to be there at 7:00ish). We wished Beth a happy birthday and then headed to the bar. We spent the next two hours hanging out with everyone. It was a great time. Kevin and I played a doodle game involving pens, napkins, our imagination, and an elephant at one point.

On the way home we had to change trains in Toride and we lucked out! Jana had caught the last train back to Ami and that was the one we were waiting for. Jana offered to give Annie, Andrea, and I a ride home so we didn’t need to take a taxi. (Talk about a sweetheart) I think we got in around 12:30am.

I slept until 9:00am and decided to be lazy. The plan for the day is to lounge in my pajamas.

food, friends
