I arrived to school and when I entered the teacher’s room, I was told “CONGRATULATIONS! Good Job! (Student’s name) amazing!” Our school’s top English speaker entered an English speech competition and did an amazing job. He made it to finals out and placed in the top group of 151 students. Aoyama Sensei came over and showed the trophy and medal that he won. She also gave me a book with all of the 151 speeches in it and marked where the top student’s speeches were.
This student worked so hard on his speech. I think I saw/corrected five different drafts of the speech. We worked on the speech after school for two or three weeks. He listened to comments, went home, and then practiced what I told him. He had the thing memorized by the time he gave it! He also showed no fear when it came to practicing the speech. I had him in the teacher’s room two times giving the speech in front of the principle, vice principle, and any one else who was in the room. Talk about being brave!
