Aoyama Sensei greeted me when I got to school today and showed me today’s newspaper. (She was jumping up and down from excitement.) Our student’s FIRST PLACE win, in the English speech competition, made the news (as did the students who got second and third place). I also got a bit of a shout out. Aoyama Sensei said “The school’s ALT has been helping him practice during lunch and after school.” I may have helped him with the technical parts as how to stand when giving a speech or where to pause but for the most part the student deserves the credit. He worked so hard at this.
A couple of the other teacher’s stopped and asked me if I had heard the news and I told them that Aoyama Sensei called me when she found out. The school is very proud of the this win.
I also found out that our student will be competing in the next level in November. I was expecting it to be like the English Interactive Forum where he would be competing against other students in the prefecture. However, I was told that it was going to be a competition between students in eight prefectures. Oh, we have work to do.
