The My Ami Festival

Aug 04, 2007 20:19

IT IS HOT!!! I am not made to be out in 100 degree weather! The My Ami Festival started today and I decided to avoid the heat by heading to the festival at six o’clock (as the sun was starting to set). I went by myself as no one else was around.

I parked my car at interTalk and walked to the festival. On the way I ran into one of my students who takes classes at interTalk. I chatted with his family for a minute and then we went on our separate ways. I ran into many of my students who always seem so surprised to see me out and about. I ate two of the traditional fair foods: corn on the cob and flavored ice. I also watched the parade of the portable shrines. Every neighborhood in Ami has its own little shrine and they are carried around on first night of the festival. It has to be exhausting as the shrines are not light and the weather was hot. Nevertheless, it looked ask though everyone was having a great time.

Two of the shrines before the parade started.

One of the shrines being carried. As you can see, it takes a ton of people to carry the shrine.

This shrine had a dragon leading it and a band playing on the inside.

I thought this was too cute!
