It is my first day at Asahi Chu (my new Junior High School). The teachers have been very friendly to me even though they have been very busy. Kyoto Sensei (Vice Principle) is hilarious. Kyoto told me to call the head teacher “Boss” and the head English teacher “Chief”. He also pulled two of the young teacher aside so that they could introduce themselves to me, one of the female teachers is 23 years old and her birthday is October and a new male teacher is 22 years old. Kyoto Sensei also made sure that I was given a tour of the school so I knew where all of the classrooms were. The head teacher “Boss” showed me around the school and made sure that I understood what room was used for.
The first year math teacher also came up to me today and talked to me in English. She asked if I liked sake and beer. The first year English teacher told me that I taught her son when I was teaching at Ami Chu and the third year teacher is going to be the teacher that is in charge of me. She seems really nice.
The third year teachers wanted to see if I could brought a lunch to eat when the teacher came over to ask me if I wanted them to buy me a lunch box she spoke in very slow Japanese. It was wonderful.
One thing that I need to figure out today is if I am allowed to throw away materials from my desk. There are lesson plans from 2000 and JET books from 1999. Normally I wouldn’t mind this but they are out of date and I don’t have a lot of room by my feet so I need to see if I can get rid of some things.
Another wonderful thing about Asahi Chu is that it is a smaller school. There are only eleven classes in the school. Each grade as three classes and then there are two special education classes. This means that I will be able to get to know the students better.
Finally because, I am teaching at Asahi Chu I will only be teaching at two elementary schools this year. I am teaching at Ami Daiichi Sho for a second year (a bigger elementary school) and my new elementary school is Jikkoku Sho. This is a small elementary school with only six classes, one per grade.
