Tsuchira Fireworks

Friday night was of course Grey’s Anatomy. The girls got together and watched it. I must say I was a bit shocked with the twist that the show took but I will not get into that now. If you want to know my opinions e-mail me or leave a comment. I will however say that Meredith was extremely entertaining and while we have not seen much of Izzie in action, I think Katherine Heigl is doing an amazing job this season with playing the grieving Izzie.

I just hope the writers know where they are going with the individual story lines and I also hope they don’t make all of the characters miserable. I want to see some happy characters. Sarah and I try to catch each other on messenger to discuss the week’s episode and so she can fill me in on the previews for next week’s episode. (We don’t get those here.)

Yesterday, Katie came over and we hung out. We then went to Cocos with Jana and for a walk after that. It was a beautiful day…sweatshirt weather! The sun was shinning, the sky was a brilliant blue, it was the perfect fall weather.

Last night was the Tsuchira Fireworks Competition. The fireworks in Japan are some of the best in the world and this competition highlights the new fireworks for the year. Beth, Brooke, Blain, Kevin, Katie, and I went to the show.  (Jana also went but she went with a different group and sat in the reserved seats…I can’t wait to hear how those were.)  Our group met up with a couple of former interTalk students. They brought a huge blue trap and we put some blankets on it and sat in a rice field. We had a great time watching the fireworks, eating good food (and too much of it at that), and talking. The fireworks started at 6:30 and went until 8:30.

The show was much better than the show last year (at least in the minds of Beth, Kevin, and I) and the half time show was mind-blowing. The colors, the shapes, and the style of the fireworks was just beautiful. The women sitting behind us gasped and applauded through the entire halftime show and I had the biggest smile on my face. Watching fireworks is always a lot of fun but to watch in a rice field in Japan makes them that much better.

After the show we started to walk back to the car and I realized that I left my purse in the rice field and I went back to get it. Luckily, I managed to find it. It is hard to find a black purse in a rice field. When we finally got back to the cars most of the traffic had cleared out so it was an easy trip back to Ami.
