I keep meaning to throw this up here. I had meant to do it after November, but it managed to slip my mind until I happened to find it again a while back. This had to be the first time I had ever written my ideas for a story down, even if it's not a true outline in the fashion I do it now. But I actually used this for the basis of Genetic Experiment, which is why I had to wait until after I was done with the book to post it.
This was written in 2004 when I was 20/21. So...yeah, expect it to be sappy/kinda weird. But at the same time, it's not half bad (you know, considering I still used the same concept and all).
Genetic Experiment Story Idea
Brinna Wyatt is like any other normal three year old girl, with the exception of the fact that she lived on a floating space colony far from her home planet. But, no big deal, she doesn’t know this. She has many brothers, two at least that are older, and one that’s the new born baby and takes time away from Mommy. But Daddy still pays attention, when he’s around, because Brinna’s Daddy’s little angel. However, things turn out bad far sooner then later for dear Brinna.
One night, when Mommy, baby, and eldest brother were out shopping, leaving Daddy to watch over Brinna and older brother, few strange men came into the small apartment. They wanted Brinna, for some strange reason, but Daddy had made her hide before the men came into the home. So Brinna, a frail young three, watched in horror as the men literally ripped Daddy apart with bullets when he would corporate. That image has been implanted into her brain forever, as her first memory.
The men find Brinna under a table, and take her, too stunned to fight back. The also kill older brother, without Brinna’s knowledge. They take her to a strange place, a place she’s never been before, and, after a day of getting over what happened, they start experimenting on her.
They were making her into the perfect human. She was going to be tall, but not that tall, with perfect features, although the freckles were unexpected and wouldn’t go away. She was going to be the perfect weight with the perfect bust size (which actually fails miserable…some genetics they couldn’t fix). She was going to do everything better than everyone else, even better then the past genetic experiments.
She was about seven when they finally barcoded her. The symbols went down her back and on the outsides of her arms. She had no clue what they meant, if they meant anything at all, but she didn’t like them. She would try to scratch them off, but, her accelerated healing got in the way.
She was only ten when she finally got away. It was by accident, of course, when the main scientist working on her was transporting her to another facility to work on her brain. She was brilliant already, that’s why they wanted her, but they needed to make her perfect for men, knowing when to speak, and what subjects to talk about. Nothing about frilly pink things for this girl. But then he, thinking he could navigate, crashed into a small uncharted planet where no one could ever find her.
When the inhabits found Brinna, she was still terrified from all the experiments that were done to her. She wouldn’t speak, for she hadn’t spoken in five years, expect for one word; Brinna. The inhabitants took this to mean she was stupid, and labeled her a half-wit, and sent her off to the colony filled with other half-wits. At first, she thought that perhaps these people were genetic experiment rejects, and she was one as well, until she realized she was learning at a much faster rate then they were.
She stole the studies of the children older than her until she reached the point beyond them. Then she stole books and materials from more complicated subjects, and ran away for hours to learn them. The people in charge, being around half-wits all day, took this as a sign of her stupidity, thinking she didn’t want to learn, and would every now and then go after her and punish her.
Eight years went by like this, and Brinna had gotten used to the treatment. She talked slower than she normally would, pleasing the people in charge, and was just glad no one experimented on her. Then she met a young dragon tamer by the name of Damien when she was out studying, and she acted normal, so much so that the young man actually fell for the young Brinna. She, of course, disappeared right after that day, the best day of her life, and Damien was disappointed. That is, until he made his scheduled stop at the half-wit community to supply them, and found Brinna there.
Damien stayed a bit longer than he should have, getting to know Brinna better. She told him how she was found, and used they excuse of seeing her father being blown apart at the excuse as to why she didn’t talk when she was found. She understood the dangers of being an offworlder on this planet, and wouldn’t dare tell him. He accepted this, and somehow convinces the leader of the half-wit community to allow Brinna to go with him.
In him dragon tamer village, Brinna is still thought to be a half-wit, and stays with Damien, for more then one reason. She, and he, tried to prove she isn’t a half-wit or stupid, that she is in fact smarter than most people, but don’t accept this for a while. (Note, Brinna hasn’t really used her genetic enhancements yet. She doesn’t want to. Although, she’s questioning the breast thing a lot). She gets to know Damien’s dragon, Rani, and he begins to trust her more than anyone else in the village besides Damien.
Life was going good for Brinna the first time in fifteen years. She was really close to actually marring Damien, and starting a family with him, with unexpected visitors show up on the planet. They point to Brinna as being an offworlder, and suddenly she’s shunned by everyone. She has no choice but to go with the men, and she leaves her perfect world behind.
However, these people bring her back to her old world, where she finds her mother and eldest brother still alive. She sincerely thought her family was dead, and is quite surprised to see them. They attempt to go back to a normal life, although Brinna starts to discover her new abilities, and she once, again is classified a freak. No one wants to be around her anymore, not even her family. At least her extended family. Her mother and brother had gotten to know and love their lost daughter/sister.
But Brinna pines for Damien, even though he shunned her. She loves him with all her heart, and can’t let go of him. What a surprise for her when a few representatives from Damien’s world including Damien himself, show up on Brinna’ homeworld.
Naturally, Damien had realized his mistake, and needed Brinna back. Brinna understood from what he told her that he had shunned her simply because he was shocked and didn’t understand what was going on. So Brinna forgave him, and they go back to the small uncharted (although now charted) world.
However, the scientists aren’t going to give up that easily. They come to this new world looking for Brinna, because they needed her data and to complete their experiments. And no one seems to want to fight off these people, other then the people who had really gotten to know Brinna. At this point, Brinna and Damien are married, and Brinna is expecting.
