Hey, I was looking forward to your thoughts because I have no chance of coherently writing down my own right now! I agree with the Torchwood execution having its ups and downs, even in these two episodes. I was right there with you hiding from the kiss in 1941. What the hell is the real Jack Harkness going to say to everyone over there? "Hi. Um. Pretend you didn't see that, okay? Okay." (But on the other hand: \o/, he got kissed!)
Re secrets: so everyone and their dog knows about Torchwood, apparently. Whats up with that? But I'm glad Jack's veil of secrets was lifted a little. I'm really curious as to what the others are going to think about it once they realise he's gone now?
I'm glad Rhys is alive, too, but I maybe wanted a little more repercussions to all that recklessness. But apparently Jack's a forgiving kind of guy. As for Jack/Ianto, I'm as confused as you are (and craving good fic that explains it all). I'm going to have to rewatch some scenes now!
But, most importantly: OMG, THE DOCTOR! WHY MUST THE WAIT BE SO LONG?

Well, on the bright side, he isn't going to live long enough to be arrested or court-martialled.
Or, hey, maybe he'll be put on sick-leave due to obvious insanity, and Jack actually just saved his life. Who knows?

I think all the other alien-aware types in the world had their attention directed fairly sharply towards Torchwood during the Cybermen/Darlek invasion. Torchwood itself seems to have been fairly shattered by that.

Heh, there's always that. *g*

So it's a matter of my less than adequate Who-watching, then. That explains it. Would you mind telling me what the relevant Who episodes are? I watched the Ecclestone season on tv so I might have missed one or two along the way.
It was the last two episodes of the Tennant series. Torchwood London managed to open a rift in space and time into another dimension, and allowed several million Cybermen through (they were trying to open the rift, the Cybermen were something of a surprise). As a result, Torchwood London was pretty much wiped out. Ianto's girlfriend was cybered during that attack.
There have been a lot of hints, but for me, the order and pacing has been a bit weird, especially the (otherwise brilliant) watch moment. Also, while I love secondary canon, we shouldn't have to rely on it :)
Oh my goodness yes. I was totally completely unspoiled and those tardis noises literally stopped my breath. So glad I wasn't spoiled.
I also agree with a lot of the other stuff you said re Gwen and Jack and Ianto wearing mulberry. I very much liked the vest in 1x13 though, too. They totally made up for a lot of mediocrity with these two episodes.

I had no idea what was coming at the end and it rocked my world. Awesome.

I can't think of another show recently that got such a vocal response from me.

It comes down, mainly Ianto gravitating to Jack because of their inherent loneliness.
Even on the Torchwood site, there's little hints of it.

The show is so up-and-down, it's rather frustrating. But the last two were very good indeed.
