PSA-Help keep the Lakota on the Pine Ridge Reservation Warm in the Snow
reposted from astarrymist's journal. I do not have money to donate right now, but if you do, it would be greatly appreciated by the people who are trying not to freeze to death in the snow in South Dakota:
From the National Weather Service for Sunday, Dec 14:
".... ANOTHER BAND OF SNOW WILL MOVE THROUGH WESTERN SOUTH DAKOTA (today). SNOW WILL PICK UP BY MID MORNING BRINGING 1 TO 3 INCHES OF ADDITIONAL SNOWFALL TO THE AREA. NORTH WINDS WILL CONTINUE AT 20 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 50 MPH. THIS WILL LEAD TO BLOWING SNOW REDUCING VISIBILITIES TO NEAR ZERO. THESE WINDS COMBINED WITH MUCH COLDER TEMPERATURES WILL PRODUCE DANGEROUSLY COLD WIND CHILLS."
The weather forecast above is for today, December 14th - about 1 month after the record setting November Blizzard. - and the forecast for the next 10 days is for temperatures between 24 and -18 degrees F. This winter is challenging the ability of the Lakota to keep their families and elders warm. Thanks to your support, through the wood and heat program, the Lakota have already delivered more than 200 truck-loads of wood and 1,000 heaters. Through Project SHARE they have delivered urgent food supplies to families and elders in all areas of the reservation.
We need your help to continue these efforts. In this the poorest area in the western hemisphere, the Lakota are working to care for their people. We can help.
The best gift we can give is warmth and food - to last long after the holiday is past.
