What positive qualities do I have?
What do I have to offer a graduate program?

After two years of working doing jobs that only require a B.A., I know that I want to enter more challenging fields. A graduate degree is the first step towards meeting the requirements to enter these careers.

A professional attitude. After graduation I've worked for 2 years. In those two years I've been late 1 minute and never took a sick day. I plan to apply the same attitude towards my graduate studies by planning ahead to meet deadlines and scheduling work so it can be accomplished in a timely manner.

Capable. In each job, I've been recognized for my abilities. When I worked as an underwriter, I was promoted from underwriter trainee to underwriter meeting accuracy and productivity goals after just 6 months -a feat that only others with previous background insurance where able to achieve. As a teacher, I received numerous awards for consistently bringing in the most new students and receiving the highest marks for student satisfaction at the most profitable branch in the company.

Persistence. Throughout my life when I've encountered difficulties or personal weakness I have worked hard to turn these into strengths. In high school my weakness was English. In college I became an excellent writer, worked as an English tutored, and authored an essay on Math history that won an honorable mention award. As an undergraduate, I encountered difficulty in making the transition to mathematics based on writing and understanding proofs. However, as I continued through the series of advanced mathematics I steadily improved, finally receiving an A in my class final advanced analysis class, a course heavily reliant on understanding theorems and writing proofs.

Problem Solving. I especially enjoy taking on challenging problems and creatively attempting solutions. For example, for the sport of ultimate frisbee there are no authoritative sources on what is the best way for a defender to cover a receiver. However, working with another coach I purposed a simple mathematical model which described the positioning. From this model we were able to infer the best possible position to keep the receiver from having an open chance at making a catch. As I go on in my study of math I hope to encounter more complex problems, learn how to create accurate models and infer simple truths from their result. In this way, a deeper understanding of math leads to a deeper understanding of the world.

Anyways just trying to start writing.
