Finally back from AnimeNEXT 2010!

Jun 22, 2010 05:43

Hello folks. I have safely returned from my first AnimeNEXT, and it was very enjoyable despite the less than ideal setup. I am going to try not to type too much because it's already around 5 AM, and why the heck am I up? Must be because of that super sugary frappe that was forced upon me by McDonald's and Darcy.

Lets do a quick rundown. Thursday! DISASTEEEER. Oh man, my Yuki Sohma top was such a mess. Sewing ability on my half would be ideal. I received the top I had commissioned someone to do the week before and wouldn't you know, the collar was way off. It's pretty much perfect otherwise, but the collar happens to be one of the most important aspects for this cosplay. Needless to say, my 2nd con cosplaying seemed like a nice FAIL. Luckily, my old high school classmate, Joanna, helped me out. I had no idea that she was into cosplay and such until recently, and to be honest, we never really talked much in high school. I owe her a lot of thanks though. She ended up modifying a standard dress shirt as a temporary substitute. My finickiness still got the best of me, and I modified things further after she left.

I really feel like such a bad person when I am asked what I think of the result something that someone does just to help me, and I fail to convey enough appreciation. Minor details just drive me insane.

After stabbing myself with a needle half a dozen times, the end result was something I could live with, for now. Darcy fiiinally picked me up about... 3 hours late? We then drove to Sophie's. That was my first time meeting her, and she seems fun. No real qualms here. My memory of what we did is a bit fault, but I do remember trying on 3 different outfits that Darcy brought for me to crossplay in. It was really thoughtful of her to bring all of them for me. I was really hoping for Punie-chan, but it just wasn't going to fit. My head is over sized, and Darcy's is under sized. The lolita outfit didn't work out either! Finally, I tried the Lucky Star school girl outfit and success! She forgot the blue wig (to be Konata), but that's fine. I probably nagged too much about not having the wig though she was working hard on finishing up Sophie's dress as well as one of her own cosplays.

At some point everyone went to sleep. Just wanted to note that I always get up early. What is there to really do when I get up 2 or 3 hours before everyone on a daily basis? Nothing but be bored. Fast forward to getting on the road. Sophie drove, and we picked up Anya. First time meeting her! Very sweet (lolita) girl. She even made us cupcakes! Skip some more. Finally make it to the convention around 3 or 3:30 PM on Friday! It was then my first time meeting Kory as well as Melissa. I enjoyed everyone's company. No real drama to speak of.

Anya and I got into our outfits and headed to registration. Despite not knowing each other beforehand, I think we got along quite well. She's just so agreeable we talked a lot about all sorts of things. We went to the StereoPony concert and had a good time. Here is Friday's cosplay, btw. This is the only picture I have come across so far. Tomoya Okazaki from Clannad.

There's too much to write, and now it is almost 5 AM. Saturday was fun. I went to a Fruits Basket photo shoot at 10 AM. The turn out was disappointing, but I made a new friend. Anya and I went to Bad Anime Bad. HILARIOUS. Here's a picture from the shoot. Cosplay: Yuki Sohma (Fruits Basket).

Okay! We were going to go to the masquerade, but the line was ridiculous. Maybe next time.. :( Very late at night me and some roommates went to a diner with a bunch of people I didn't know. It was awkward; I am far too shy sometimes. Instead of trying to introduce myself to all these potentially awesome people, I just sat at the end and did not exist. Being shy and anxiety ridden has always been one of my least favorite things about myself. Improvement has been made over the years, but will I ever get as far as I want? Food was good at least.

Sunday Sunday. Last day. This was my day to crossplay. I ended up using my Yuki Sohma wig with the Lucky Star school girl outfit. It turned out pretty well. Most people that wanted pictures thought I was trying to be Tsukasa. :D The females really seemed to like cross dressing guys as well. I guess Darcy was right.

What else to say? I will try to get better quality pictures on here when I see them posted online. We got some Japanese for dinner. Stayed an extra night. I finally got home around 8 PM on Monday. Perhaps I will provide more details later. Sleep sounds nice. Before I forget to mention it. My facial hair seems to have finally started to grow in a little bit more quickly. Only about 8 years late to the party. Story of my life.

The usual shyness, awkwardness, and indecision holds me back. But I am kinda sorta over it!.. Once in a while. :P
