Charles learned the hard way the he can only dedicate himself to one thing at a time. His undergrad first, then his dissertation, and now the struggle to stop Shaw from starting WWIII.
As much as Charles and Erik are attracted to each other and have even admitted it, Charles decides that he has to wait until after Cuba before he can try to have a relationship with Erik because right now, he and Erik need to fully concentrate on the big picture.
What he didn't predict was them running out of time.
