So, I was told that I HAVE to journal this. :)
I came home for lunch yesterday, and was noticing one peculiar thing after another. First, I noticed my bike helmet on the floor and thought it odd. Hmm... The cat must have knocked it down. Then, the door to the garage was opened, and I thought I was sure I closed that on my way in this morning. Then, after some time, I noticed most of my dresser drawers were open a bit, and at least one 20 dollar bill was missing. All right... That does it. If Leo's stealing money from me now, he's out of here! (I know this was a bad thing to think about my cousin/roommate, but he's given me reason to suspect him... :( ) Anyway, I was about to leave for work when I noticed the back door was unlocked and it finally hit me. Somebody broke into my house! I went straight to the cupboard where I had lots of change (well over $100 worth) stashed. It was all gone. I went back to the garage and sure enough, the window was broke out and the door outside was open. A little later I realized my bike was gone too. All I was thinking is, this sucks! There goes my budget for buying Christmas gifts this year (for the window).
So I called the sheriff's office and they sent a deputy. Went through everything and let him know what I had found missing. I didn't figure I would ever see any of it again, but then I got home that evening and found a message informing me that my bike was found on the other side of my property and had been taken in to get fingerprints. I was then looking at the broken window to figure out how big of a board I needed to nail over it for now. My neighbors happened to be right outside and I learned that one of the kids had been involved with some girls found shoplifting at ShopKo earlier in the day. His mother started making connections between this and the fact that the girls had a bunch of coins they were counting earlier. A little later I get a call from her saying that they want me to head over to ShopKo. They had my money. Wow! So I gues I will be getting most of what was taken back! Hopefully I'll get the window paid for too through restitution by the girls. I also hope and pray that they're learning a serious lesson here and this will help them make better decisions in the future. Oh! The girls are all in the 7th grade I think. :(
So now I guess I just wait for the sheriff's department to finish processing my bike and hopefully return the money and I'll have to figure out what I need to do to get the damages paid for. Hey Kiya... Any advice from the future laywer?
