Random little rough draft cause I am bored, can't seem to write anything I've already got going and I can't sleep.
Selena and Leighton friendship piece
Somewhere along the way she had tricked herself into thinking that eventually it would all pass. Eventually of course had in her mind been equated to three or four months, but almost a year had gone by and everything still felt so very raw.
They weren’t supposed to become these people. They weren’t. They promised each other they wouldn’t.
Selena clenched her teeth in an attempt to fight the wave of pain that ripped through her. She shouldn’t think about it. Nothing good had come from dwelling on any of it yet, why would it start now?
The faint garbled sound of what might have been her name reached her ears. Selena blinked and tried to clear the fog of the thoughts that shouldn’t be thought from her head. Her ears strained to try and catch the noise that had already come and gone.
She may have missed the first call, possibly even the second and third to the vacuum of space, but she very clearly heard Tom call her name with a sharp irritated tone this time.
Damnit.
Red began to creep up her neck as she raced over in the direction of the director. The pricks of everyone’s stare danced across her skin. Undoubtedly they found themselves wondering not for the first time why on earth she was there. She was just a Disney kid after all.
Her pulse jumped when her ears picked up a new sound. Giggles. Leighton and Katie were laughing at her. She was certain of it. Salt bit at her eyes making everything just a tad blurry.
Without a glance in her direction, Tom pointed to the small x on the floor marked with masking tape. Twelve paces to the left, but this wasn’t a treasure map though and she’d already fucked up enough today.
Get in character. She had to get in character.
A quick jog of the memory and a deep breath and suddenly she wasn’t Selena anymore. She was Grace. Grace who didn’t have an annoyed director and exasperated costars that in her mind obviously looked down upon her and a former lover on the other side of the globe that she shouldn’t be thinking about.

“You okay kid?”
The soda in Selena’s cup splashed all over her hand as she jumped at the unexpected voice. Not one of her most graceful moves, yes, but at least she didn’t throw it at Leighton. That would have been much worse obviously.
“Oh, uh, yea. Damn, sorry I uh…” Selena would have probably ran off to hide to wallow in embarrassment if not for the sticky liquid she was trying desperately to clean off her hand without dirtying her wardrobe.
A playful smile graced Leighton’s lips as she grabbed a few napkins from the concession cart to add to the now rather useless drenched one Selena was trying to force into moping up the mess.
“I didn’t mean to startle you.”
“No it’s…” Selena shrugged and accepted the napkins in Leighton’s hand. “It’s been a day.”
“Yea. I don’t think Tom knew what he was signing up for.”
Selena was able to pick out what could have been a vague insult at her expense in Leighton’s sentence and if this particular day hadn’t been so inherently shitty and maybe if she hadn’t spent all morning trying not to cry she would probably have come up with a witty little dig at the older girl in response.
“I uh… I didn’t mean to mess up,” Selena practically whispered while continuing to rub the now dry but still sticky skin of her hand, certain she was being made fun of.
“Selena, we all messed up,” Leighton laughed while wetting another napkin with a little water from the water bottle she had picked up somewhere along the way. “I meant that he seems frustrated with all of us. Katie’s made it her mission to crack him apparently.”
Casually Leighton grabbed onto Selena’s soda covered hand and began to wipe off the mess with her damp napkin. Somewhat dumbfounded Selena could only nod in the appropriate places as Leighton casually explained the details of how their costar was going to befriend the seemingly standoffish director, secretly reveling in the fact that the other girl had held on to her hand for much longer than was necessary.
