I'm flying to Utah in a few hours, where I'll live with my fantastic grandmother, and work with / for my uncle at AutoRX until mid April when the grand summer semester starts at BYUI. I had a conversation today with Candace and her roommate Kristen (both BYU students) about Rexburg life. Neither had so much as experienced a moment in Rexburg, but both were completely convinced that surely there must be nothing to do there. It reminded me of people from the East Coast insisting that there is nothing to do on the West. Hilarious. From my conversation with them I have decided it would be a fun idea to write a paper called "Is Rexburg boring or are Provo students?" I finally sat down and talked about all the things to do in Rexburg and all the things to do in Provo and while this is not conclusive, I was able to think of a lot more things to do in Rexburg than Candace and Kristen could think of to do in Provo.
My sister complains about people who walk around BYU with BYUI apparel on, scoffing that they are inferior because they didn't come to BYU first, but transferred from Idaho. She is not bothered by the unmistakable snob factor contained in her statements. Then she wonders why she never gets dates. Rexburg-haters are Zion-haters.
On a different note, Amanda and I have struggled in certain ways recently. There is a lot we can work on, but I have sincere faith that as we focus on the gospel and on love, everything that was once a boundary will disappear and will only leave in the picture her, me, Heavenly Father, and potentially an eternal future... The best things in life and worth fighting for, and are not granted easily.
It is dreadful being away from her. I am not really me. I love her.
