I can't help but notice that this episode has caused quite the ruckus. And honestly? I can't figure out why.
What is there to complain about? people wanted answers, we got answers (and before episode 6.10 hell yes!) and you know what? I'm quite satisfied. Don't get me wrong, that episode hurt. My heart was pounding the whole time, my gut was twisted up, and by the end, I was hyperventilating. I was honestly freaking out.
Dean's confessions killed me, as did the way Lisa cut him out of her life. I really wanted Dean to be the one to 'leave' because I didn't want him to feel that pain. When Sam lied to Dean about letting him get turned, I was crushed. I knew that he was lying and I was afraid that the writers were going to draw out this whole distrust thing between them, but they didn't and I don't think they're going to. The fact that they revealed the problem so early in the season as opposed to season 4 when they waited until the second half of the season to let us in on the demon blood, tells me that they're going to work on getting Sam and Dean on the same page ASAP. Plus, it isn't Sam's fault that his soul is M.I.A. I think that Dean's going to be pissed that Sam didn't say something sooner, but other than that, I can't see him resenting Sam for this. Seriously, as of now, I am not worried. In fact, I'm hella excited.
And you know what? I've never understood the Dean!girl/Sam!girl war. I just don't get it. I hate character bashing; I think it's narrow minded, immature, and disrespectful. Does it suck that Sam's soul is missing after all the shit he's been through with Ruby and Lucifer? Yes. Do I think that there's a reason that the writers did it? Yes. I mean, come on, what did you expect? Sam busts out of the cage and his life is all rainbows and puppies? They wouldn't have a plot for season 6 if everything was just ducky. Dean sure as hell can't be the one who ends up missing a soul or anything like that, he's been a civilian for the past year. Sam is the logical candidate and it sucks, but tough. It'll all work out, it always does.
Also, I was mighty impressed with Jared and Jensen in this episode. Jared's ability to turn on the puppy eyes and then immediately shut down into Soulless!Sam was just awe inspiring. And Jensen does emotion so well, he had my heart twisting the whole time. It was just an awesome (but painful) episode. I wish other people could see it for what it is without turning it into some kind of character war.
