So
nonnycat inspired me to get off my ass. Her recent submissions to Lenox Avenue, and their very quick response time prompted me to send them something. They really enjoyed "Buried in Clay," but it wasn't quite what they were looking for. That's the second positive rejection I've had on that story, the other being Black Gate (a pretty big name in fantasy short stories). So, maybe another clean up and we'll get it back out there again. In the meantime, I sent them "The Other Side." I'll probably hear back early next week on it.
I also sent "The God Factory" to F&SF. Last story I submitted to them recieved a personal rejection, the compliment that I had nice writing, and the invitation to please submit again. The God Factory is one of the favorite stories I've ever written, and I'm hoping they enjoy it.
More importantly, though, doing the submissions somehow opened the floodgate, and for the first time in months I found myself in the Writer's Zone (It's like a runner's high, or meditation, but a unique buzz all its own, for those who havent experienced it). I got this story kernel while at work, sat down and figured I'd do a couple pages before bed. I now have ten pages, and I don't know where the last two hours went. But... it feels so good. This writing thing is such an important part of me, and when I'm not doing it I just feel so fucking fractured. But, this is the first time in ages that it has flowed for me, fiction at least. I wrote some damn good papers last semester, but that isn't the same.
so, thank you nonny. You're recent struggles to get your writing going again have inspired me to do the same. let's kick some ass.
