Thoughts on things in the "news" today:
1) The Facebook "kick a ginger" thing. Really? Aren't we sick of 20 years of blaming video games now we have something NEW to blame?
That's kind of an interesting tangent that popped into my head. It's said that violence begets violence. Is that true here I wonder?
Are children who are:
a) punished physically more prone to lash out in a common style against their peers
-or-
b) given "time out"s emotionally spoiled because they have no real fear of punishment and act out any notion that comes their way
2) Should people who are sick fly? Have you SEEN the cost of an airline ticket?! I mean, certainly people should be safe regardless of their condition. Your health is your responsibility. (p.s. - I'm not talking about things that might kill you - I'm talking about people who have a cold or (regular) flu) Until airlines start uncharacteristically being gracious enough to reschedule flights because you have a head cold.. I'm gonna say take responsibility for yourself and wear a mask if flying is so terrifying.
3) Adam Lambert. First reaction: American Idol = instantly my brain is thinking of something else. Second reaction: Well said Adam. Double standard indeed. rawk.
4) Sarah who? Seriously. If I had one wish I would wish that everyone in the world would respond to "news" about her with, "Sarah who?"
But that's really what news is now, right? Mostly it's just crap about Kardashians or "Real" "housewives" of some city or Sarah Who or Jon & Kate plus holycristican'tgivelessofashit. But is that really their fault? Totally made-up percentage but I bet 90% of Americans don't care about anything more complex than what's at the tip of their nose. So, for "news" to be watched and viable (i.e. profitable) they have to report on complete crap as their "top" stories. Besides, the "news" is so polarized these days that you really can't expect to trust it more than reading a blog of someone IN the event. It's just as spun.
Remember Osama bin Laden and how ANGRY and JUSTIFIED and OUTRAGED and HELLBENT ON REVENGE we were seven years ago? Some people may blame Obama for wanting to more peacefully slip back into the world neighborhood but that's ok - there have always been idiots since time immemorial. Certainly we weren't asking ourselves this question when Dumb-ya was in the office (of course, we weren't SERIOUSLY expecting him to do something vaguely intelligent at the time. It was more rhetorical.)
