Everything has been going good. We've been able to spend a lot of time together since Kayla is at the condo. I really think it was LONG over due ( Read more... )

okay, i'm gonna comment on your journal cause i don't feel like getting flak for my choices. (got here from october2005)

#1- What kind of bottles did you use?
i use the playtex bottles with the disposable liners, right now it's easier than sterilizing the bottles. it's so much easier to just do the nipples and caps and rings than doing the whole bottle. although i have the playtex avent ones and i think i'll use them once my daughter needs a fast flow nipple, they're good for that but not for really little babies cause they eat too fast and then don't feel good.

#2- Did you wash the bottles and nipples in the dishwasher? If not, how?
i don't have a dishwasher, so i wash the bottles in hot soapy water and leave them to air dry, and i wash the nipples and caps in hot soapy water, then submerse them in water and boil them in the microwave for five minutes (eg. put them in the microwave for 15 minutes and by 10 the water's boiling so it boils for a full five minutes) although if i had a dishwasher i'd use that instead.

#3- Did you "swirl" or "shake" the bottle in order to evenly distibute the milk after warming? ( did that one make sense? :) )
yes, i prefer to swirl it cause less bubbles form than when i shake it. and it did make sense. :)

#4- How did you warm bottle?
i warm them in the microwave, although i'm very very careful not to overheat the bottle. my microwave is crummy, so i heat it for 30 seconds (not a lot for this piece of crap) and ten seconds at a time after that until it doesn't feel like there's any temperature difference between it and my hand at the bottom, then after i swirl it and mix it it's all just slightly warm. (although if you use a reusable plastic bottle you'll need to be more careful about the temperature, cause you won't be able to feel the temperature of the formula/breastmilk through thick plastic like you can through a disposable liner.)

#5- AFTER the bottle was warm, if for some reason (example... baby fell asleep before you got to him/her.) you didn't need to give the bottle to the baby, would you put it back in the fridge, and then re-heat it the next feeding? ( I only ask this, because I have read that ONCE you have heated it, you should not re-heat it)
unless it's been sitting for an hour or so outside of the fridge after heating it, i would still use it.
oh, and i use formula.

hope this helps.
