Notes: First attempt at real fanfiction. Been rping Alecto Carrow for many years opposite a certain Rabastan Lestrange. The two have always been close friends, since the beginning. I felt as if it was time to finally write the end of their story.
All the countless ones responsible for the cruel woman she had become, gone. The home she grew up in, gone. The school she had attended for almost seven years, gone. Family, gone. The Dark Lord, whose ideology she had followed most of her life, the man who had almost brought the Wizarding world to its knees, gone.
The Second War it was called, by those who had fought in the first. Now it was nothing but a wasteland, for all it had served. The Dark Lord, whose name would now never touch anothers lips. There was nothing left, no world to rule over as he had deemed.
“Alecto?” A man’s voice said, approaching from behind.
“How many?” Alecto asked.
“How many?” The fellow Death Eater did not understand her question.
“How many are left? How many survived?”
“Not many,” he replied. “We’ve received a few reports from a few of the others who have survived. They say there are survivors. But by the looks of it, only a handful. Most that did, were gathered up and chained, or fled before they were captured, as we did.”
Alecto spun around to face the few Death Eaters that stood behind her, and the cowering ones. None were the faces that she so longed to see. The ones before her were young, and scared. It was Rookwood who had found her, under some rabble and led her to these few to protect. In other words, to flee. The battle was turning against them, and the ones standing before her, never wanted to be there to begin with. They were following out of fear if they had not followed him. The were Slytherin students. What was she going to do with them? They all looked to her for the answer and her protection. In truth, she had none to give. She herself was afraid, but she would not let those before her see that.
All she knew for a fact was that the Dark Lord himself, was dead, by Potter’s hand. She heard rumors that Bellatrix was also dead, but nothing else was certain. No word on the Lestrange’s, or even Rookwood. The three most important men in her life, in one form or another.
What these children, which is what they were, were more afraid of now, was to return to the remnants of a castle that now stood in the distance. They feared what would happen to them since they had joined the ranks of the Dark Lord.
“Listen to me now. It is over, and you are all safe now. You must return.” She heard the murmurs and read their expressions. They were still very frightened. “I do not believe anything will happen to any of you. You are all still children, and honestly, none of you have done anything wrong. A few hexes, and most of you not even that. But only because you feared to do nothing. Seek out Shacklebolt. Tell him all you did or did not do. Do not lie. Then tell him you all hid, and then you were taken away and protected, only returned when you were told it was safe. He will be fair to all of you, and I promise, you will all be in your own beds soon.” She reassured them with a smile. ‘If only I was so lucky,’ she thought to herself.
She turned her attention back to the few Death Eaters beside her. “Take them as far as you seem safe for yourselves. Do not let yourselves be caught. Then flee from this place, as far as you can go and never come back. They will not be so kind to us as they will them. Now go.” She lifted her hand and took each of the Death Eaters arms in an embrace of sorts, of brotherhood, and wished them farewell. They would never see each other again, if they were lucky.
She watched the group as they disappeared into the darkness.
She felt the grasp on her shoulder before she heard her name. “Alecto.”
As she quickly turned in fright, she caught Travers as he stumbled before her. “Travers.” She whispered as they both sunk to the ground. It was apparent that he was badly hurt, and the wetness on her hands. Blood.
“You can not stay here Alecto. They are tracking me. They may well be here at any moment. You must go.”
“Can you not apparate? I will not leave you. Hold on to me.”
“NO. I am done. Do not risk your self for me. Rabastan would never forgive me if he knew it was because of me you were caught, or worse.”
Her eyes lit up at his name. “Rabastan? Is he..? Alive?”
Through the pain, he could not help but chuckle. “Knowing that stubborn cur as well as I do, I sure do hope so. But I do not know Alecto.“ He began to cough from the blood now filling in his lungs.
“Travers.”
“No worries. I will be fine. I will kill them all before I go down. Now you need to go, and live. Your free. Isn’t that what you always wanted?” With a nod, he bid her on her way. She laid a gentle kiss on his cheek and then slid away from his body.
She stood there for a moment before he nodded once more. “Goodbye Alecto.”
“Goodbye Travers.”
