Monday's fire alarms

Sep 15, 2009 13:43

Dear students using the library,

I know that you have deadlines to meet and that you've probably already been through enough fire drills to make anyone jaded, and you've made it clear that several of you can ignore the amazingly loud and annoying alarm sounds (I'm in awe of that, actually), but when the fire alarm goes off, you still need to leave the building.

And when you hear a voice on the intercom saying, "This is not a drill. This is an actual fire. Please leave the building," you really need to leave the building.

Not just because it would be tragic if you were to lose your lives in a fiery blaze of books (books, being made of paper, are highly flammable - perhaps you didn't realize?) but because none of my coworkers deserve to feel guilty for not shepherding you out of the building.

In this case, the fire was quickly extinguished and people were allowed back into the building within an hour, but no one knows how these things will turn out.

Please work on developing this one small self preservation skill.

Many thanks,

One of your worried librarians.
