In short it rocked. Some folks will be annoyed, but I think it was awesome. The checklist:

Cohesive story: Check
Great effects (that didn't make folks nausiated): Check

Humor: Check
A few inside jokes: Check
Ninja Sulu: Check (look, it's not really a spoiler, suck it up)
There really is something for everyone. New and old fans alike will be able to relate and enjoy it. I won't lie, it is different, but I think it was time for a little fresh air in the franchise. Go see it in theaters, the big screen is worth it.
Oh, and Karl Urban as Bones steals EVERY scene he's in. Really, he's brilliant.
